在这两句话中，大家能判定哪一个是定语从句，哪一个是同位语从句吗？在给出答案之前，咱们先看一下定语从句和同位语从句在概念上有什么区别。
用这个方法，我们来看一下最初的一组句子：
·Do you believe the story that she hit his boyfriend last night?
·Do you believe the story that she told you?
在这两句话中，第一句话that后面的句子是she hit his boyfriend last night，这是一个完整的句子，解释说明前面的story这个词，整句话的意思是：你相信她昨天说的那个故事吗（什么故事呢），就是她昨晚打她男朋友的事。所以第一句话是同位语从句。
在第二句话中，that后的从句是she told you，这句话不是一个完整的句子，因为句子缺少宾语，她告诉你（缺少告诉你什么），所以这句话中that 充当从句中宾语的成分。因此第二句话是定语从句，that 修饰限定story，毕竟天底下这么多，到底是哪一个story呢，that就把这一范围给缩小了，表示她告诉你的这个故事。
现在大家对定语从句和同位语从句是否更加清晰了呢？我们再以雅思考试中的句子为例，分析一组句子：
1.His approach to the problem that had worried writers throughout the late 17th and early 18th was intensely practical.
在这句话his approach to the problem that had worried writers throughout the late 17th and early 18th was intensely practical 中，hat had worried writers throughout the late 17th and early 18th 作为一个定语修饰限定his approach to the problem, 整句话的意思就是：他的办法针对困扰作者从17世纪到18世纪的问题非常实用。在从句中，that 作为主语代替前面的his approach。

这句话中，that引导同位语从句做evidence 的同位语，在这里，that后是对evidence的解释说明，这句话可以翻译为：另一个与传统教学不同的迹象是，（迹象是什么呢）--------在一节暗示学习法讲习题课中，学生通常能学习1000个外语单词，包括语法和习语。
总结一下，定语从句是将先行名词的范围给缩小，同位语从句解释说明名词。定语从句后面的句子一般不是一个完整的句子，其引导词在句子中是充当一定成分 的；相反，同位语从句后面的句子一般都是一个完整的句子。
